ISO9001:2008

The Dongguan Plant in China acquired ISO9001:2000, the quality management system certification in May 2003 and updated to ISO9001:2008 in November 2009, and each department of development, process design, purchase, production and quality management has practiced continuous improvement and maintenance.
With the above, we aim at further improvements in quality and technology by securing product quality satisfactory to customers.

ISO13485:2003

The Dongguan Plant in China acquired ISO13485:2003, the quality management system standard for the medical equipment industry in January 2010.

This standard is the standard for a quality management system, incorporating special requirements for securing safety and effectiveness of medical equipment based on ISO9001:2008, which covers a wide range of areas related to medical equipment such as surgical scalpels, injection needles, catheters, dental treatment equipment and materials, such devices as MRI and artificial heart and extracorporeal diagnostic agents. This standard has been widely adopted as the requirements for legal regulations of medical equipment in Europe, Canada, Australia and various Asian countries, including Taiwan, and is the global standard for medical equipment, "reflected in the Order of Ministry for the Standards for Manufacturing Management and Quality Management of Medical Equipment and Extracorporeal Diagnostic Agents" (commonly referred to as "QMS Ministerial Order") in Japan.

Kowa Manufacturing (H.K.) Co., Ltd. started exporting such bath related products as shower chairs and bath rails, etc., to EU markets in 2009 and we are promoting deployment mainly in care facilities and some medical facilities. These products are classified not only into welfare equipment but also into medical equipment.

Acquisition of ISO13485:2003 is proof of building up a management system that enables the supply of medical equipment securing safety and satisfying regulation requirements and we can expect to obtain credibility and improvement in organizational value in markets. It will also lead to system building corresponding to legal regulations for medical equipment which are different from country to country, and we believe will be effective in global expansion of product distribution.

Cooperating Plants Quality Communication Meeting

On November 26, 2010, the quality communication meeting of outsourced plants was held at the Dongguan Plant, Quality Management Department in China.
On that day, a total of 62 managers came together from 44 outsourced plants and discussions were held for three hours due to requests for cooperation in quality improvements from plants and reviews of nonconforming cases, etc.
Because most of our products are comprised of outsourced processing parts, improvement in the quality of finished products cannot be expected without improvement in quality at outsourced plants.
This is the first communication meeting and many participants endorsed this activity and we recognized a shared understanding in strengthening the cooperation system to further improve the quality of Kowa products.
